NOTE: We have modified the description of this lot to point out that the PSA LOA actually states:
“After a thorough examination of this Mike Piazza professional model bat and its player use characteristics, it is our opinion the bat is authentic, and was manufactured for Piazza during the referenced labeling period.” The "game used" has been changed to "game issued".
The only Hall of Famer who was drafted as an afterthought, Mike Piazza is probably one of the greatest hitting catchers in baseball history. Drafted by the Dodgers as a favor to his godfather Tommy Lasorda, Piazza amazed scouts by slamming pitch after pitch over the fence during his tryout, far exceeding the expectations for a 62nd round pick. The slugging catcher is the subject of the presented 1992-93 Mike Piazza Rookie Year Signed/Game Issued professional model bat. Exhibiting light game use, the slab of lumber presents well with a nearly unblemished handle and some scattered surface marks on the barrel. The number “31” is written on the knob is silver marker, which was worn by Piazza in 1993 (“25” was his original number). Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA confirming game use during labeling period; also comes with a full photo LOA from JSA.
