The record price for a '28 Yankees signed ball is $22,500 back in 2006—and we dare say that this offered example, which hasn't been seen in the hobby for many years, is nearly as nice. Interestingly, the ball almost doubles as a prized '27 example, because every player here was rostered in both '27 and '28, and none of the '28-only names (Campbell, Shealy, etc.) are present. However, it is the stamping of A.L. President Ernest Barnard—who ascended to his post in the 1927-1928 off-season—that definitively pinpoints the orb to 1928, rather than to Ban Johnson's tenure in 1927. Most importantly of all, the Bambino and the Iron Horse's script is quite strong, with Ruth rating "8" and Gehrig at "7". The remaining signatures on the lightly shellacked, medium-toned OAL (Barnard) ball average "6-8" w/Lazzeri, Combs, Hoyt, Collins, Koenig, Dugan, Pipgras, Grabowski, Durst, Moore, Gazella, Thomas, Paschal, Bengough, Doc Woods (trainer). Full LOA from JSA. This item has a reserve (estimated value: $10,000-$20,000).
