Detailed description on our website.
Get some serious bang for your bucks with this rare signed check. You would think that as the head of a major banking house, financier James Pierpont Morgan (d.1913) would have signed so many items that there would be a great supply of his signature. Not so judging by what is currently available for purchase. Dedicated autograph seekers will certainly enjoy this rare opportunity to acquire a check signed by Morgan.
Dated 9/5/1885, this large sum voucher is made in the amount of 32,756.77 Francs, drawn on check number 28354 from the firm Drexel, Harjes & Co. of Paris. Started in 1868 by John H. Harjes, Eugene Winthrop and Anthony J. Drexel, this Paris-based investment bank soon came under the banner of Drexel, Morgan & Co. as the French affiliate of the international banking concern headed by Morgan and then renamed in 1895 as J.P. Morgan & Co.
This antique document is crisp and clean with deference to some unobtrusive compacting folds, ranking minimally as (VF). Morgan’s industrial strength signature dominates with (“7-8”) potency, spanning 5” of the check’s surface at lower right. Full photo LOA from JSA.
