Detailed description on our website.
You know the National League featured some fierce competition in 1964 when a team with six HOFers only finished fourth in the standings. The ‘64 Giants were a super-talented squad led by Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Duke Snider, Orlando Cepeda, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry and a number of other star players. An incredible late season surge saw Bob Gibson and the pennant winning Cardinals push past some incredible teams including the star-studded Giants, who finished three games back with a 90-72 record.
Recall this team of west coast wonders with this prestigious 1964 San Francisco Giants team-signed ball. An ONL/Giles ball plays host to (23) autographs, including the aforementioned sextet of HOFers. This well preserved ball is clean and white with bold factory stamps, meriting a (NM-MT) rating. Signatures range (“5” to “8”) with an average of “6-7”). This period-signed keepsake is accompanied by a full photo LOA from PSA/DNA which reports 24 autographs, when in fact there are only 23. This authentication letter also lists just (5) HOFers: Mays, Marichal, Cepeda, Snider and Perry, with McCovey omitted and also notes (1) clubhouse signature: Al Dark.
The complete list of (23) signers is as follows:
Sweet Spot: Al Dark (manager, clubhouse), Orlando Cepeda (partially overlapped by the Dark signature)
North Panel: Bill O’Dell, Bob Shaw, Gil Garrido, Bob Hendley, Gaylord Perry, Tom Haller
South Panel: Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Bill Pierce, Harvey Kuenn, Jim Ray Hart, Ron Herbel
