Evidently, football was not the only sport that Sonny Jurgensen once aspired to be a star in. Jurgensen actually played varsity baseball in high school and was a switch hitter with a .300-plus average as a senior. The presented 1951 American Legion MVP baseball cup trophy attests to his diamond career. Featuring moderate to heavy wear, this silver trophy that is approximately one foot tall still has excellent eye appeal with a solid “mirror style” reflection captured on both the top and the bottom of the Greco-Roman patterned piece. The trophy reads “1951 American Legion Union Baseball Trophy Wilmington Post No. 10 Most Valuable Player – Awarded to Sonny Jurgensen – Donor David S. Harriss”. Signed LOA from Sonny Jurgensen attesting to the item(s) being from his personal collection.
