Wes Ferrell, one of the more respected pitchers of the 1930’s, won 20 games six times in his hurling career. He is statistically one of the best hitting pitchers of all-time, hitting .280 over his career with an MLB-record 38 career home runs. Ferrell is the subject of this 1938 Washington Senators Game-Used Wes Ferrell home jersey. The off-white shirt is a Spalding & Brothers size 46 button-front features a full block “W” sewn on the left breast in navy-on-red felt twill. The reverse features a restored #10 in the same fashion. The jersey features moderate to heavy wear including rust stains inside the collar around he "W. Ferrell" sewn onto the neck in pink and a small amount of moth damage. The jersey was likely repurposed for use after 1938, as evidenced by the presence of a faded baseball centennial patch on the left side. This rare style item is potentially one-of-a-kind, as gamers of this style almost never come on the market (neither do 1938 Washington jerseys, for that matter). According to the LOA, “Given my prior knowledge, my expert opinion is that this 1938 Washington home Wes Ferrell is indeed genuine”. LOA from Phil Wood.
