Detailed description on our website.
Tackle an important collectible rarity with this WWII Era publication. Presented is a 12/26/43 NFL Championship Game program featuring the Washington Redskins vs. the Chicago Bears.
Issued at Wrigley Field in Chicago, this dynamic program was designed to evoke a sense of wartime patriotism with a dazzling red, white and blue stars and stripes theme backing art images of competing mascots, with a snarling bear cub causing a Native American character to fumble. These mascot images proved prophetic as the Bears won this title game handily by a score of 41-21.
This big game souvenir shows GD-VG quality with deference to the front cover and first page being detached from the main body. Age-appropriate wear in the form of small bits of paper loss along the spine and at corners provide a pleasing period-authentic look rather than being a visual detraction. Additionally, the cover and first page are attached in unseen fashion by what can only be some form of light adhesive, as are the back cover and the last page which remain attached to the rest of the program.
Interior photos and roster listings include George Halas in military uniform, Sid Luckman, Bronko Nagurski, “Bulldog” Turner and Sammy Baugh. Among the interesting array of advertising is a stirring full-page “Waves” military enlistment ad.
