It’s the stuff that hobby dreams are made of! Recently unearthed from the tucked away belongings of a since-closed Philadelphia area variety shop, this incredible 1960 Topps Baseball Series 2 unopened cello box is proof positive that great finds still occur in the hobby. These (36) 12-card cello packs have endured the passage of time in remarkable condition! All visible cards come from the #111-198 second series.
Upon closer examination, each cello presents as when produced over 66 years ago with tight factory folds and nary an instance of obtrusive edge splitting or corner fissures. It is presumed the hidden contents are equally pristine! Additionally, multiple future Hall of Famers and rookie stars are showcased peeking through their confines including Fronts: #132 F. Howard RC, #136 Kaat RC, #148 Yastrzemski RC, #160 Mantle/Boyer; Backs: #132 F. Howard RC and #188 D. Williams.
The “Trading Card Guild” 10-cent display box is impressive with strong colors and intense period advertising graphics. The lid is unfolded confirming this cello box was indeed overstock and never distributed for public sale. Despite a contusion resulting in back panel separation, the interior packs can still be snuggly displayed in their original home. With 432 total cards present, multiple ultra high-grade copies of each Series 2 key card are in play. Whether one selects to keep the collection together, grade individual packs or cards, the sky’s the limit for this legendary find!
