Babe Ruth was an icon that those who did not live during his heyday in the roaring twenties could hardly hope to understand. Every major sports publication had to supply pictures of the beloved Yankee slugger taking a shot at the fences. This lot of (2) New York Times Mid-Week Pictorial Newspaper cover displays is a testimony to the practice of depicting “The Bambino”. Includes: 1) 16-1/2 x 23” May 22, 1933 New York Times Mid-Week Pictorial Cover entitled “Mighty Babe Ruth returns from exile” depicting the slugger about ready to take a swing. The cutout does present well apart from a 4” tear that has been repaired with tape and a small tear in the bottom right corner and 2) 16-1/2 x 23” May 22, 1933 New York Times Mid-Week Pictorial Cover entitled “Babe’s Mighty Bat Once More Swings Into Action”. This specimen presents well for its age in VG-EX condition and features only light to moderate creasing and miniscule spots of paper loss. This full page Babe Ruth picture shows him in his legendary follow through.
