Description

"Everyone loved him," sportswriter Bert Sugar said of Bill Gallo. "He was probably the second-most outstanding symbol of New York, other than the Statue of Liberty." Gallo (1922-2011) was the New York Daily News sports cartoonist for a half-century, and he continued drawing right up until his death at age 88. Naturally, the Yankees were Gallo's bread and butter. Here are the master's original sketches of Donny Ballgame and the late Yogi. Includes: 1) Yogi Berra signed OAL Budig ball presents NM-MT with (“8-9”) signature and small scuff near Yogi’s left ear and 2) Don Mattingly signed 1994 World Series ball, LE #9/23 with ("8-9") signature and moderate smudging near top of the illustration of the former Yankee captain. Auction LOA from JSA.
