Walter Gilbert got the phone call (or possibly the telegram) that everyone who plays minor league baseball is looking for in 1926 when he stepped up to the big leagues for the first time to play for the Yankees. Gilbert may have been demoted shortly thereafter, but he would go on to play for the Dodgers from 1928-1931 and the Reds in 1932 before seeing an injury end his career. Gilbert is the subject of this Walter Gilbert 1926 New York Yankees-Atlanta Cracker Player Transfer Contract. The contract is neatly folded into four parts and  presents very well in EX condition (with deference to a small tear in the upper right corner) and has been handled by American League President Ed Barrow, who signed Jacob Ruppert’s name at the bottom of the “Atlanta Baseball Company, Inc.” document. The contract represented an agreement for the Atlanta club to pay the Yankees $2,500 in exchange for the use of Walter Gilbert’s services. Auction LOA from JSA.
