At age 42, Charlie Hustle batted .375 in the NL Championship Series and .313 in the World Series, with 11 total postseason hits and 4 runs scored. Little did the Phillies equipment staff know that Rose would be released by the Phils a few short weeks later, because he was offered only a future part-time role and wanted to go elsewhere instead to play full-time. Thus, as was the prevalent custom at the time, Rose's 1983 playoff jersey presented here is actually labeled with the year 1984, even though its classic 1883-1983 centennial sleeve patch clearly pinpoints it to '83, and even though Rose was of course suiting up with Montreal in '84. What's more, he bestowed the jersey with his big, beautiful, blue-marker "9-10" signature acknowledging the '83 postseason: "Pete Rose / 1983 NL Champs." The terrific blue-style road jersey features red-and-white identifiers; red-and-white piping; "Rose" chain-stitched inside the collar; and a Wilson size-44 tag with a chain-stitched "84 1" label below. Light wear overall. Auction LOA from JSA.
